Peak Season

Memorial Day has come and gone, and the island is already beginning its busy season. For the locals, that means the next few months will be spent limiting trips over the bridge and dealing with bizarre grocery shortages. (Seriously, why is it suddenly impossible to buy Colby Jack cheese or garlic salt?!)

Another major shift is the influx of the “me first” frame of mind—especially behind the wheel. Drivers tend to look for an opening first, leaving pedestrians and bicycles as a second or third priority. If you are visiting us this summer, please try to embrace the true spirit of “beach time.” Try not to get frustrated that the traffic is heavy or that there are ten people ahead of you in line. Everything happens just the way it should out here, so just slow down and enjoy the ride.
