Being born here in Eastern NC during the mid-70s and spending every summer at the beach was a wonderful time to be young. We played in the woods, rode our bikes and skateboards, and were normally home when the streetlights came on. And yes, we drank water from everything from the tap to the hose. Today, our beaches are more popular than ever, and many of us who grew up here now work to serve our tourism economy—and that water we drank turned out to be quite toxic (Camp Lejeune water). Just remember that being at the beach is not about carrying 200-pound coolers, tents, chairs, radios, and 420 square feet of plastic toys. It should be more about slowing down, enjoying your day, breathing the fresh air, and letting the rays shine in your eyes.
